Sudden death of former Netherlands Court of Audit President
It is with great sadness that the Netherlands Court of Audit announced the death of former President Saskia Stuiveling on 20 April 2017. Saskia Stuiveling was a member of the Netherlands Court of Audit from 1984 to 2015 and its President for the last 16 years.
INTOSAI lost a personality who, over decades, essentially shaped, influenced and strengthened government audit.
Saskia Stuiveling decisively shaped INTOSAI over the last decades. It was her who established the INTOSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing in 1992 and the EUROSAI Working Group with a focus on IT governance in 2002.
Following the Tsunami in 2004, she took the initiative to increase the transparency of aid flows, which resulted in the creation of the INTOSAI Working Group on the Audit of Disaster-Related Aid. Her IntoSAINT self-assessment initiative - now spread over all INTOSAI regions - put the integrity of public administration and the role of SAIs in the international focus.
With the EUROSAI Congress in 2014 in The Hague on innovation she set a sustainable example, and it was also her who contributed to paving the way for digitalization and open data in the international audit arena.
It is without any doubt that her work and her energetic personality and great expertise have influenced the international audit community and will continue to leave an imprint on INTOSAI.
