HLPF 2021

The INTOSAI Secretary General participated at the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF)

"Sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic that promotes the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development": this was the heading under which this year’s UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development was held. This forum is the central platform for the annual review of the progress on implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Usually, it takes place in New York, but due to the pandemic it was organized largely virtually. In 2021, the focus is on assessing the implementation of SDGs 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

On 8 July 2021, INTOSAI Secretary General Margit Kraker took part in a high-level roundtable discussion – together with representatives of national governments, the United Nations, its specialized agencies and other international organizations, scientists and the Comptroller General of the Republic of Chile, Jorge Bermúdez – on the topic "How do we get on track for building more peaceful, equal and inclusive societies?". In her capacity as Secretary General of INTOSAI, Ms Kraker highlighted the important contribution that Supreme Audit Institutions can make through their audit activities during the crisis and thereafter: especially as regards the achievement of SDG 16 as they ensure transparency and accountability, but also to the implementation of SDGs 3, 10 and 17.
